A few weeks ago we did a team building activity called "Save Fred"! Students got into pairs and were given a lifesaver, a gummy worm, a plastic cup, and four paper clips. We put the lifesaver under the cup and the gummy worm on top of the upside down cup. Students were given the objective to try to "save" Fred (the gummy worm) by putting him inside the lifesaver. They were given the following rules:
1. You can only touch the objects using the paper clips.
2. You could not "injure" Fred
3. If you drop Fred more than twice then the game is over
4. You must communicate in a respectful manner with your partner to save Fred
We worked on our communicating skills, problem solving skills, and teamwork. The class had a really good time trying different strategies to save Fred.
