It is so hard to believe that we have already made it half way through third grade! It has been a great year so far! I am so glad I have been able to spend time with your child and get to know each of them!
We have done so much this year already. We have learned all about our community, our geography, and some of the people that are in our community. We have also focused on life science and started our earth science unit. In math we have made lots of progress in our number sense! With our newest big unit being multiplication it is fun to work on our multiplication songs. In reading we have made leaps and bounds in our Reading Counts! We continue to read all the time.
We have also had lots of visitors and even took a field trip this week!
In November the Bloomington Rotary Club visited us and donated a children's dictionary to every third grader at our school! We have been taking our dictionaries to library each week and learning how to use them. Our class was even able to play a game using their dictionaries!

At the beginning of December we had another visitor come and teach all of the third graders Spanish Christmas carols. Ms. Wendy, my mom, used to teach high school Spanish and she was able to come teach the students a few new words and songs! The kids enjoyed getting to learn a few new words in Spanish!
We also had one other visitor at the beginning of December, my dad. My dad, stepmom, and six little brothers and sisters have been living in Uganda, Africa for the past six months. My dad was back home for a week and was able to come talk to us about what it's like living in a different country. The kids had excellent questions for him! He was able to talk about what food they have, what school is like, and what the houses are like in Uganda.
On December 17th our music teacher, Mrs. O'Shea arranged for the first, second, and third graders to go sing at State Farm Corporate Headquarters. On December 17th we packed into our buses and went to visit State Farm! We had a great time and all the students sung beautifully!
Lastly, on December 18th we had our holiday party with the other third graders. I was able to give the students their holiday gifts and let them pick a hat that my grandma knitted for them! We then read How the Grinch Stole Christmas and watched the movie with the other third graders. We were able to have a Grinchy GORP, thanks to your donations!
We have had a great first half of the year!
Have a safe and happy holiday break!
