We have been doing a lot of STEM challenges lately in order to build our problem solving, team work, and communication skills. Our latest STEM challenge was a review from our science unit when we talked about oil spills. Students were in teams of three or four to work together to try to get oil out of a container with water. They were also challenged to clean up a rock, a feather, and a leaf that were in the oil and water. Our students did a great job working together to get as much of the oil out as they could. The task ended up being more difficult than we originally thought, but the effort that everyone put in was great.
We also worked with our kindergarten buddies to help them learn a little more about the butterfly life cycle. We read them books about the butterfly life cycle, and then colored coffee filters and sprayed them with water. We are waiting for them to dry, then we will use a clothes pin to make them look like butterflies.
We started working on our egg drop devices today and we will be testing them on Thursday! I will be sure to share pictures from our egg drop later this week!
