We have been so busy learning that I haven't posted on our blog!
In art, our class learned about Helen Keller. Our art teacher, Mrs. Bussan, then invited Ms. Tarkowski, who is blind, to visit the classroom. She shared with our class information about her daily life and how she uses technology to overcome the obstacles she faces. She even brought her guide dog, Fondo! Our class was also able to make artwork for blind individuals. They used glue to "draw" pictures and painted them with watercolors. The students really enjoyed this activity!

Before Thanksgiving break, we were also able to go on a field trip to watch a musical called "The Marriage of Figaro". Our music teacher, Mrs. O'Shea, organized this for us to go to the Bloomington Center for Performing Arts to watch this musical. It was a great learning experience for us! The whole musical was in Italian, so we had to read captions that were displayed at the top of the stage. We really enjoyed this opportunity!
Finally, we were learning about writing and reading in a sequence. We practiced this by reading books and retelling the story by telling the beginning, middle, and end of the story. We also wrote the steps the make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We had to make sure that the steps were written in order so that somebody could read our writing and make their own peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We also worked on revising and editing our own writing when we made our "how to" writing. Every student had to read their writing, look for words that were spelled incorrectly, and find places that they could add more details to their writing. This is a standard that we will continue to work on this year. When we finished our writing, we made our own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to enjoy! This week we are writing sequence paragraphs that tell how to decorate a Christmas tree. If you are in the building these next few weeks, stop by to look at our work on our bulletin board!
